One Month Old (Calvin’s Monthly Photo)

for Calvin’s monthly photos over the weekend and while I worked on that, . She said that they were for Calvin, so of course I had to include them in his photo!

Calvin, One Month Old

I did get a half-dozen photos of him in the chair before he started crying, but I had set the camera’s focus incorrectly at first, so those were all blurry. (Way to go, me.) He’s a pretty happy baby — it’s too bad his first monthly photo doesn’t reflect that. But he is a newborn and like all newborns he tends to cry a fair amount, so I suppose it’s an accurate enough representation!

Calvin, One Month Old

(I’ll be taking a photo of Calvin sitting in the Eames rocker and wearing his pin each month until he’s two years old. I also took monthly photos of his sister, Eleanor, and his brother, August.)

Beautiful little boy in his striped onesie –I just want to pick him up and rock him. I love that your daughter made those felt flowers, also included in the pic. Such a sweet family!

I love this idea! I always looked forward to Eleanor and August’s monthly photos when they were younger. I can’t wait to do this with my own someday. :)

I love this series! I think that you do a really good job and it’s great that you include the sad ones. Just wondering, have you ever considered curling him up on his belly, tucking in his arms and legs to get a picture of his newborn-ness? It’s such a fun stage squishing them up like that.

This is an amazing photo documentary of the progress of all of your descendants. Imagine as technology progresses what their children and grandchildren will do in recording their own children. I really think you may have established a tradition in your family that will carry on generation after generation. As an elder I can’t help thinking of the first “moving picture” of a horse in motion and how they made flip cards to actually show its gallop. I believe it was to determine in what sequence the horses hooves struck the ground, But your progressive photos could achieve that same effect. I bet the kids would get a laugh out of that-to see themselves change from Baby to toddler in seconds. Really enjoy your blog Nicole-Hope you are feeling great and nursing or its alternative has made Life a little less stressful.

There have been a couple of really interesting videos like that. I think there was a Dutch photographer who did that with his daughter, filming her every day/week/month for years, all the way through today when she’s 13 or so.

Do you use your good camera for these? What did you decide on for your new, smaller travel camera? All your babies are adorable and I love your blog!

I used my ‘good’ camera, the Canon 7D, but I got a Fuji x100s for my travel camera, and the quality is on par (maybe better in low light!). I have a follow-up draft that I’ve been working on with the research that went into my decision, but I haven’t had time to revisit and finish it. I’ll try to get that up soon.

I am always talking my friend down off the ledge when it comes to photos of her two little girls…
Some of the best, most enchanting ones are when they are not smiling!
Those photos can sometimes be the ones with the best stories/memories.

I love the ‘imperfect’ shots. Smiling kids are cute, but the other moments are often so much more real, and definitely trigger a lot of memories!
